As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation, may we give thanks to Almighty God for the many blessings we enjoy in the United States. As Christians, we recognize that gratitude for our country also calls us to pray for our nation, for our leaders, and for all who work to promote justice, peace, and the common good.

Missionary Cooperative Appeal
This Weekend, July 4–5
This weekend, our parish is blessed to welcome the Dominican Sisters of Santa Maria of the Rosary as part of the Diocese of Fall River's biannual Missionary Cooperative Appeal. The two sisters, originally from India, traveled here this week from Ecuador, where they serve some of the poorest neighborhoods of Quito through their missionary ministry. Their religious congregation, founded in Italy, has been serving the people of Ecuador with great faith and generosity for many years.
I had the opportunity to meet the sisters yesterday, and they are very grateful to be here and are looking forward to meeting all of you at Mass this weekend. During each Mass, they will share about their religious community and the beautiful work they are carrying out in Ecuador in service to those most in need.
The second collection this weekend will be sent to the Sisters of Santa Maria of the Rosary to support the missionary work of their religious community in Ecuador. Following each Mass, the sisters will also be at the church doors to greet parishioners. A basket will also be available at the exit. A Wonderful Weekend at Steubenville
Last weekend, our parish youth group had the privilege of attending the Steubenville Youth Conference in Ohio, and what a tremendous weekend it was! The conference was filled with inspiring talks, beautiful liturgies, powerful opportunities for prayer, and time for fun and fellowship together. It is always a deeply renewing experience for our young people, and for me as a priest as well.
After departing Ohio around noon on Sunday, we arrived back in Fall River a little after 2:00am on Monday morning, tired, but grateful for an incredible weekend.
Thank you for your prayers for our group throughout the trip. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who supported our fundraiser and made donations to help make this trip possible. Your generosity gave our young people the opportunity to encounter Christ in a profound way, and we are sincerely thankful.
Below, I've shared a few reflections from some of our SFX teens about their experience at the conference. I hope their words give you a glimpse of the impact your prayers and generosity have had on their lives:

National Eucharistic Pilgrimage Visits New Bedford
It was a blessed evening this past Monday, June 29, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, as the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage visited our city of New Bedford during its journey through the original thirteen colonies in this historic 250th anniversary year of our nation.
I was grateful to participate in the pilgrimage, and I was especially happy that about 25 parishioners and friends joined us by bus. Thank you to everyone who came.
The pilgrimage began at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, the first Cape Verdean parish in the United States, before processing to St. James Church and finally to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. There, we celebrated Holy Mass with beautiful sacred music provided by a choir composed of singers from parishes throughout the area. Following Mass, many remained for Eucharistic Adoration.

A Great Two Days at Altar Boy Boot Camp
This past Wednesday and Thursday, we held our annual Altar Boy Boot Camp, and we had a wonderful couple of days together! The boys enjoyed sports, games, and other activities at the school on Wednesday.
On Thursday, we made our annual field trip. We visited St. Pius V Church in Providence for prayer and a tour, stopped at St. Dominic Chapel on the campus of Providence College, enjoyed lunch together, and then put our teamwork to the test at Escape Rhode Island before finishing the day with ice cream.
I am especially grateful to Melissa Maldonado, Eamon Martin, seminarian Noah Pollard, and Deacon Lucas DaCosta for assisting throughout Boot Camp and helping make these two days such a success. A special thank you to the Ice Cream Cottage for generously donating ice cream for all of the boys and volunteers.

Sacristan Day – Coming Soon
Girls in grades 3–12 are invited to consider serving as sacristans. Sacristans help prepare the church for Mass, care for the sacred vessels and liturgical items, and assist with the many details that help our liturgies run smoothly. In a couple weeks we will hold our annual Sacristan Day, a fun and hands on introduction to this important ministry. The date will be announced soon, but interested girls and their families are encouraged to begin considering this opportunity to serve the Lord and our parish.
SFX School Receives NEASC Reaccreditation
We were delighted this week to receive official word that the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) has granted St. Francis Xavier School reaccreditation following its comprehensive evaluation of our school this past March.
A few months ago, I asked for your prayers as the visiting team spent several days on campus evaluating every aspect of our school. While we were confident in the wonderful work taking place each day at SFX School, we were grateful to receive the Commission's official affirmation of the outstanding Catholic education being provided here in Acushnet.
The Commission also offered several thoughtful recommendations that will help guide our continued growth and improvement in the years ahead. Accreditation is not just about recognizing past accomplishments, but about continually striving for excellence in fulfilling our mission.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mrs. Haley Rogers, Mrs. Anabela Shaughnessy, and the teachers and staff who devoted countless hours to preparing the self study, hosting the visiting team, and collaborating throughout this process. Their dedication and love for our school are evident in the report's many commendations.
Many members of our parish are alumni, parents, grandparents, or supporters of SFX School, so I hope you will be encouraged by the Commission's words below. Women of Grace Summer Study Begins July 15
This summer, the Women of Grace will be offering the WOG Foundational Study, a wonderful opportunity for women to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, grow in prayer, and reflect on the unique gift and vocation of authentic Christian womanhood. Some parishioners may remember participating in this study years ago, while others may be encountering Women of Grace for the first time.
Whether you are new to the program or a longtime participant, this foundational series is a great way to reconnect with the mission and spirituality of Women of Grace as the group prepares for another year of study, fellowship, and growth in faith.

If you would like to schedule a Mass intention in memory of a loved one for the first half of 2027 (January–June), the Mass intention book will open this Wednesday, July 8.

Save Your Cans This Summer!
As summer barbecue season gets underway and the Fourth of July approaches, please remember to save your aluminum beverage cans and donate them to our parish can collection on the east side of the church.
Thanks to the dedication of a few generous parish volunteers, these cans are collected and redeemed, with all proceeds going to support the activities of our parish youth group throughout the year.
Empty cans may not seem like much, but they add up quickly and make a real difference. Thank you!

Altar Flower Donations
Parishioners are welcome to sponsor the flowers on the high altar in memory of a loved one, in honor of a special occasion, or as an offering of thanksgiving to God. The cost to sponsor the weekly altar flowers is $100.

Lift Operators Needed
We are currently in need of additional volunteers to assist with operating the church lift at our weekend Masses, especially the Saturday 4:00 p.m. Mass.
Lift operators arrive about 30 minutes before Mass and assist parishioners who use the lift to access the church. They also remain briefly after Mass to help them return downstairs.
This simple but important ministry helps ensure that all are able to participate fully in the life of our parish. If you would be willing to help in this way, please contact me for more information.
