Celebrating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Next Weekend
Next weekend, on Saturday, August 15, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Although this feast is ordinarily a Holy Day of Obligation, the obligation is lifted this year because it falls on a Saturday.
Even so, I encourage you to take the opportunity to honor Our Blessed Mother by celebrating this beautiful feast. To make that possible, I will offer a Vigil Mass for the Assumption on Friday, August 14, at 6:00 p.m. There will also be our regular 9:00 a.m. Mass on Saturday morning.
Please note that the 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday, August 15, will be the regular Sunday Vigil Mass for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time, rather than the Assumption.
I hope you'll consider joining us as we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and entrust ourselves once again to her loving intercession.

Parish Office Update
In June, I shared with the parish that I would be taking some time to evaluate the administrative needs of our parish before announcing the next steps for the parish office. After that period of evaluation and a search process, I am pleased to share that Filipa Melendez has accepted the newly created position of Director of Parish Administration.
In this role, Filipa will help coordinate the day-to-day administration of the parish, oversee the parish office, support our ministries and volunteers, coordinate parish communications and events, and assist with many of the behind the scenes responsibilities that help our parish serve our community well.
Many of you already know Filipa as a parishioner, lector, CYO coordinator, and school parent. She and her husband, Jose, live in New Bedford, and their two children are students at St. Francis Xavier School.
Filipa will begin working with us later this month and will be in the parish office on a regular basis beginning the week of August 24. Please join me in praying for her as she begins this new ministry and in extending a warm St. Francis Xavier welcome.

School Field Project Update
Our new school field continues to make great progress! The excavation and site preparation are nearly complete, and the contractors are hoping to begin installing the turf in the next few days. It's exciting to see the project taking shape after so many months of planning and preparation.

We Had a Good Streak...
Well...our streak has come to an end. Late last night (August 8), someone crashed into the guardrail at the intersection outside the church. I heard a loud bang late last night but didn't get up to investigate, only discovering the damage this morning.
The good news is that the guardrail belongs to the Town, so hopefully they'll be able to repair it soon. Thankfully, that means I don't have to navigate the insurance process this time! 😅
Let's also say a prayer that everyone involved is safe.
